Mike and Jytte from Stenløse stayed on Hotel San Michele in Anacapri from the 26th of July to the 2nd of August 2008.
Juli 2008
The stay at Capri was the second week of our holiday (as you know the first week was in Trivigno) and we experienced "culture shock" after our first quiet week. We take this visit as an education and experience with both very positive and some negative aspects.
The hotel at Anacapri was excellent and we were given an outstanding room with magnificent views overlooking the sea and the port area. the general service level was outstanding especially in the restaurant and the cleaning staff. The food was also excellent and served with friendly professionalism. The service at the reception was more variable-depending upon who was on duty. One lady was very good the others indifferent. Capri itself is very expensive in most cases double of what we were used to paying. The number of visitors is overwhelming and the infrastructure of the Island is straining to cope.
This said, we agree that they(local authorities and population) do a fantastic job of keeping things running smoothly as possible. There are long lines and long waits but handled very well. Public transportation quite adequate but again very crowded with long lines and waiting times.
Our conclusion is that if you expect lots of people and an expensive stay that the island offers many areas of interest and exciting experiences. If you leave the main tourist sections by as little as 100 meters you find yourself in a typical Italian town. Well worth the effort to experience.
